GHIG 2022 General Election

KEY NOTICES TO THE ELECTORATE AND CONTESTANTS

  1. Dates: The General Elections to elect Executive Officers who will steer the affairs of the GhIG for the next two years is scheduled for Wednesday 24th November and Thursday 25th November 2021.
  2. Mode of Voting: Electronic Voting shall be the mode of voting for the Elections. The link to the Electronic Voting platform will be available on the website of the GhIG.
  3. Access to the Ballot: Login details shall be sent to eligible voters via text message to their contact numbers to enable them to cast their votes. Any additional information shall be communicated in due course.
  4. Duration of Voting: There shall be 27 hours of voting, starting from 9.00 a.m. on Wednesday 24th November to 12.00 noon on Thursday 25th November 2021. Candidates and/or their representatives are required to be
    present at the Election Centre at the GGSA Observatory at Achimota in Accra or by other means, to observe the opening and closing of the balloting, and declaration of the results.
  5. Election Centre: The Ghana Geological Survey Authority Observatory at Achimota (near GIMPA, next to the Forestry Commission) will be the official Election Centre.
  6. List of Candidates: The approved List of Candidates for the various Executive Offices being contested is presented in the table below.

  7. Voters Register: In accordance with the GhIG Constitutional Bye-laws,Clause 8 (sub-clause 8.2), only members in good standing (312 in total), as approved by the Council of the GhIG, are eligible to vote.
  8. Voter Turnout (minimum requirement): According the GhIG Constitutional Bye-laws, Clause 8 (sub-clause 8.8), a minimum of ten percent (10%) of the total number of eligible voters is required to determine the outcome of the General Elections, on a principle of simple majority of valid ballots cast and counted. Thus, the voter turnout for the upcoming Elections should be at least 32 (10% of 312) for validity of the ballot.
  9. Conduct of the Elections: The GhIG Election Committee assures all members of a stress-less, time efficient, free, fair, and credible elections. The UG eVote electronic voting system adopted for the upcoming elections is an online voting system developed by the University of Ghana Computer Systems (UGCS). It runs on the world wide web (www) and allows users to vote from their personal computers or mobile devices from any location after being authenticated based on criteria set before the elections. The UG eVote is robust and highly secured. It stores certain information on devices used to vote, in addition to the identity of the voter and the votes cast. The UG eVote has been used successfully in the conduct of the elections for University of Ghana Branch of the University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UG-UTAG) in August 2021. Successful elections are assured for all.
