VICE PRESIDENT FOR INDUSTRY
Samuel Torkornoo is an industry champion with professional experience as a geologist, exploration executive and company director. He brings a depth of knowledge as an industry insider and a trusted advisor. He is a passionate advocate for the mineral and the extractive sector. Sam is committed to driving the success of the industry and is an active participant with industry, key stakeholder groups and young professionals as a trusted voice and mentor. Sam is keen to attract and develop the growth of our young people and ensure that the sector’s benefits are delivered to the general public. Sam strives to ensure that GhIG remains relevant and viable in an ever-changing world, and is keen to help set the strategic direction of the Institute and make sure ‘our voice’ is heard, especially with the competing needs of Geoscience Professionals, by engaging with industry players and organisations to encourage young professionals to join the institution.
Sam has over 25 years’ experience in mineral exploration and management. Sam is the current Chair of the Exploration Committee at the Ghana Chamber of Mines. Sam is a current Council Member of GhiG and Ghana Chamber of Mines. Sam was very instrumental in the current transformation of the institution. Sam previously served as the Public Affairs Officer and is the current the Chair of the Finance Committee. Sam was a member of the constitutional review Committee and currently serves on a number of committees (membership, finance, etc) Sam is passionate about professional standards and is a member of Professional Geoscientist Ontario (PGO) and the Australian Institution of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM). Sam is excited about the future of GhIG, mining and the extractive industry of Ghana, even as the world moves further into the digital age and welcomes the opportunity to serve you as Vice President of the Industry.
