VICE PRESIDENT (ACADEMIA)
Thank you for this unique opportunity given me to present myself to be considered for the position of Vice President (Academia) of GhIG.
I am an Associate Professor of Geochemistry in the University of Ghana. I have published extensively in the fields of geochemistry, geochronology, petrology and hydrochemistry, focused on the Birimian of Ghana, and other geologic terranes. I teach introductory and advanced courses in areas of geochemistry/geochronology and water resources management.
In university administration, I have been Senior Tutor and Hall Master of Jubilee Hall & International Students Hostel for 3 and half years. I have been Head of the Department of Earth Science since 2019. I have also served and continue to serve on various statutory and ad-hoc committees of the University of Ghana, all aimed at achieving the university’s mission and vision.
My membership of GhIG spans over 22 years. As an accomplished academic who has achieved a lot in research and publication, I shall bring this experience to bear on the discharge of my responsibilities to drive up academic and student membership. I will also contribute to promoting collaboration between GhIG members from academia and industry to design appropriate and suitable training programmes for student members so that they will acquire the necessary industry-related skills.
The Institution plays a key role in bridging the gap between geoscience professions, and education and research and should continue to be a leading and authoritative voice of our science. I would bring to the role of Vice President (Academia) an enthusiasm to ensure that its role continues to develop along the lines it has been following in recent times.
I am standing for this election with the hope that I have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the affairs of the Institution. If elected, I hope to contribute to the Institution’s remit of providing technical support in accrediting university programmes in the geosciences.
I count on your vote in my election so we shall, together, make GhIG more vibrant and take it to a level higher than what we came to meet. Yes, we can transform GhIG to be recognized as a formidable and one of the fastest-growing professional bodies in Ghana.
