Categories of membership

All professionals working in Ghana’s mining, minerals, and petroleum industries are eligible to join the GHIG. The GHIG offers excellent chances for personal and professional growth throughout every stage of your career as a geoscientist or a professional working in geoscience-related fields including mining, processing, and metallurgists.

Applications are made strictly in accordance with the GHIG bye-laws for the Student, Graduate, Member, and Fellow categories. It is suggested that applicants study the code of ethics before submitting their applications.

Professional Member

A person with at least one of the following qualifications is qualified to be enrolled as a Professional Member

  • An Associate Member of the Institute for not less than three years
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any one of the fields of geoscience from a recognised university with more than 3 year’s working experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any geoscience-related discipline with more than 3 year’s working or teaching experience
  • a Master’s Degree in any one of the fields of geoscience from a recognized University

Honorary Fellow

A person with the following qualifications is qualified to be enrolled as a Honorary Fellow

  • has at least fifteen years of working experience, five years of which are in a position of major responsibility
